Series of digital collages, 2020
When the first lockdown took place in Athens, all the news and every facebook post were almost exclusively about the pandemic. The only non covid-related news that managed to arouse intense public interest concerned a newly constructed hotel that hid the view of the Acropolis.
During the second lockdown, a new lighting system of the same rock was inaugurated, in a festive atmosphere, accompanied by a warm speech by the Greek Prime Minister.
I've been dealing with the Acropolis and the several ways it imposes its presence onto Athens and its inhabitants since my student years.
This time, I returned to the subject, with a series of daily “desecrations on paper” to entertain myself and my facebook friends and to comment on the way the Acropolis affects our lives both on a symbolic, but also on a very real daily level.
